Christian Writing & Publishing

So you want to be a writer, huh? Okay. Here’s some helpful advice.

Start writing

Before I was published, I once mentioned to an author of several books that I’d like to write a book some day. I had been thinking about it for about ten years.

The author said, “Start writing! That’s the first step.” His challenge motivated me to quit “thinking about writing” and start doing it. I got my first book published a couple of years later.

Attend writers conferences

You will meet editors and learn how to write book proposals and query letters. Don’t submit a query letter or book proposal to a publishing company until you know how to do it correctly.

Florida Christian Writers Conference
Glorieta Christian Writers Conference
Sandy Cove Christian Communicators' Conference
Mount Hermon's Christian Writers Conference

Don’t get discouraged!

All writers, including the best ones, have been rejected by publishers. Editors are swamped with new manuscripts every day and can only choose to publish a few. In all likelihood, you will receive some rejection letters from a number of publishers before you find one who wants it. Rejection is just part of the process.

Don’t let rejection letters discourage you. Max Lucado was rejected by 14 publishing companies before he got his first book published. Don’t give up!
